ABOUT COSCA
The Central Ohio Saddle Club
Association, Inc., an all-breed organization, has been in
existence since 1945. The primary purpose of COSCA
has been to promote the sport of horse showing. A non-profit
organization, COSCA coordinates and promotes horse shows,
encourages high standards of breeding and quality in show
horses, and fosters the study of and improvement in horsemanship
on the part of young riders.
Some of our benefits are:
A UNIFORM SET OF RULES
COSCA's uniform set of rules governs all shows approved by
the club. Every member has a voice as to which rules are changed
and/or adopted at the annual rules meeting.
As a result, classes are available for all divisions and types
of horses and ponies. Any breed may show in open classes,
but COSCA offers specific classes and high point awards for
the following breeds:
• American Saddlebred
• Appaloosa
• Arabian/Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian
• Morgan
• National Show Horse
• Paint & Pinto
• Paso Fino
• Quarter Horse
• Tennessee Walking Horse
• Welsh Pony
THE NEWS
The monthly COSCA News is available to every member free of
charge. As well as carrying the local horse world news and
club information, the News also carries a list of all approved
horse shows and their class lists.
HIGH POINT AWARDS
At the Fall Championship Horse Show, high point awards are
given based on horse and rider's success in approved shows
throughout the season. All-around high point awards go to
the top ten horses across all COSCA point classes at the end
of the season.
COSCA YOUTH DIVISION
The COSCA Youth Division's purpose is to promote sportsmanship,
discipline, and responsibility and allow young people to make
the transition to adult classes while developing greater awareness
of the variety of breeds represented by COSCA.
COSCA ADULT AMATEUR DIVISION
This division is for adult amateur riders (18 and over) who
apply for a COSCA amateur card and show in a full range of
classes against others in the division.
QUEEN AND HORSEMAN CONTEST
The contest is open to any member in good standing between
the ages of 16 and 25. Candidates may represent a member club
or may run as an independent. The first-place winner, announced
during the Fall Championship show, receives a $1000 scholarship
or a saddle.
CERTIFICATES OF MERIT AND
CHAMPIONSHIP
After entrants register with the Merit Point Secretary, Certificates
of Merit are awarded to horses when they receive 50 points
in a given class. When a horse has received three Certificates
of Merit in three different classes, the horse receives a
Certificate of Championship. A Certificate of Supreme Merit
is awarded to horses and riders who earn an additional 150
points in a class in which they have received a Certificate
of Merit.
COSCA HALTER HORSE AND PONY
OF THE YEAR
An exciting opportunity for Halter enthusiasts.
TAX DEDUCTIONS
COSCA is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status,
classified by the IRS as a charitable organization. Any gift
you give to COSCA is tax-deductible!
